Mt. Hope Cemetery bagan in 1837. At that time it was beyond the City limits. There were earlier cemeteries within the City that were eventually moved to Mt. Hope. Three of these old cemeteries have separate sections within Mt. Hope, ie West or Buffalo St. Cem. (marked [BUF]), East or Monroe Cem. (marked [MON]) and West Brighton Cemetery (marked [BRI]). Note also each West Cem., East Cem. and West Brighton Cemetery each have their own web page (follow the links). It also appears that after burials from the West Cemetery were moved that other family members were buried next to the older burials.
