James Cunningham married Bridget Jennings in 1838 in Rochester and had 6 children (or more depending on the source) between 1839 and 1853.
The Cunningham factory was originally on State Street but in 1849 James moved his factory and his home to Canal Street. The advertisement on the right from the 1849 Rochester City directory shows the factory building and his home. He still maintained a showroom on State for many more years.
The 1850 census shows James, his wife Bridget, and their children; Ann M. (11), Joseph T. (7), Celina P. (5), Margaret E. (3), and Matilda (1). Also living in the household were 13 apprentices in the carriage shop.
