James Cunningham, Son & Co.
Carriages, Autos, etc.

The time between 1900 and 1915 was a time of great change for the Cunningham Company. They could see that the automobile would eventually replace the horse drawn carriage. So in 1908 they began building auto bodies. They would get chassis and engines from others and add their body to make an auto. In 1909 both Joseph Cunningham and Rufus Dryer retired and the company re-incorporated. Augustine Cunningham was now President, James Dryer Vice-President, and Francis Cunningham Secretary and General Manager.

Note on the map that the old Cunningham home is now gone and it has been replaced by a brick office.

The company began building complete autos in 1911 but also were manufacturing carriages at the same time, including this 1911 horse drawn ambulance. The manufacture of carriages ceased completely in 1915.
