Religious Congregations in Rochester, NY formed before 1900
by
Dick Halsey

I started compiling this list of Rochester Religious Congregations in 1988. After spending at least 30 hours on it, I set it aside. I started it again a few years later and put in at least another 20 hours. Then in 1997 I have put in another 15 hours on compiling this data. In spite of the time put in on this, I can not guarantee that it is still not 100% correct. If you know of any corrections or additions, please send them to me at: Webmaster. Besides the tremendous amount of time involved, another problem was how to present this data. This web format helped solve problems with varying amounts of data for each congregation.
This listing is organized by the denominations of 1900. Then the congregations are listed under the denomination by the year that they were organized. Listed are:
- Name: The name of a congregation may have changed many times, especially when the name of the denomination changed. Also as congregations merged, they often changed their name. Each known name is listed.
- Founded: There is often confusion as to when a congregation was formed. Many conjurations had an informal beginning and then were incorporated few years later.
- Addresses: Each known address is listed.
- Notes: Random notes gleaned from newspapers and histories.
- Records: The original records should be assumed to be at the office of the religious organization, itself. If they have been filmed or transcribed, the location is given. Film numbers for records filmed by the LDS Family History Library are listed, when known.
