TWENTY-FIFTH REUNION GIFT
CLASS OF 1954
These statues once graced the facade of Sibley Hall on the Prince Street campus of the University. Commissioned in Italy in 1874 by Hiram Sibley, a University trustee. They were intended to represent Industry, Geography, Astronomy, and Navigation. Shipped to Rochester by sailing vessel and canal boat. The statues were a feature of that campus until the building was razed in 1968. Sibley Hall served as the campus library until the College Women and the College for Men were merged on the River Campus in 1955.
