Inquests Held by the Coroners of the Monroe County, NY
Nov. 1885 - Sept. 1901

line

These death records are from a series called "Proceedings of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Monroe." The published records vary by time period and by which Coroner filed records to the County.

In the November 1898 Coroner Kleindienst writes that "the number of cases investigated has increased... especially of suicides and drowning accidents. Owing to the lack of work and hard time, the number of County orders for burials has also increased." County orders are those burials that were paid for by Monroe County. Those also indicate the name of the funeral director that took care of the burial.

The County records after this time only indicate the number of cases investigated by the Coroners and no names are listed..

In thirty-eight other cases which have been brought to my notice during the past year, and in which I have taken official action, the results of a post mortem examination or a personal investigation of the circumstances of the death have satisfied me that the calling of a jury was unnecessary, and I have granted certificates of cause of death without holding a formal inquest.
