Monroe County, N.Y. was formed, Feb. 23, 1821 from Genesee and Ontario Counties. The present Township of Riga was, in 1806 called East Pultney, and Chili was East Pultney. Both were, at that time, in the Township of Northampton, Genesee County.

On Nov. 10, 1806, a group of people organized themselves in a Society, called the First Congregetional Society of West Pultney, with the following members:

At the home of Amasa Frost, Dec. 9, 1809, a "Church of Christ" was organized with Rev. Oliver Ayer presiding. Afterward the name was changed to First Congregational Church of Murray, (then Riga). Rev. Allen Hollister was the first Minister. Members:
